In 2000, the United States had nearly 135 million Internet users. As dramatic as that number seemed 10 years ago, the number of Internet users has grown exponentially: as of June 30, 2010, roughly two billion people are using the web. This adoption rate is even more strikinggiven the penetration of Internet use in Australia, Europe and North America, where some 61 percent, 58 percent and 77 percent ofthe population is connected, respectively. Even other sections of the world that have a lower percentage of web users are rapidly making up ground, with Africa and the Middle East experiencing increases of more than 2,300 percent and 1,800 percent, respectively, in the last 10 years.
